Teachers' Area

The teachers' area is designed to provide teachers with a range of resources to develop their student's understanding of Sub-Saharan Africa.

The activities and resources have not been divided into age groups as you will be the best judge of what is appropriate for your students. Many activities can be adapted to different age groups. A number of web sites have been highlighted as useful. These are suggestions only. Teachers will need to decide whether or not the content is suitable for their students or not.

It is very important to note that there are a number of issues (e.g. health and child mortality, child soldiers) endemic in Africa that would be profoundly disturbing to school age children. Many of these can be accessed via the web. The web links provided are for the schools and teachers. Please do not provide directly to students.

The suggested activities can be used to raise student awareness of the geography, people, wildlife, arts and craft and life in general in Sub-Saharan Africa. The activities have been designed to help students identify and relate to African children and their issues.
